Good cause through my chapatis ❤️🙏🏾Pt#1

The idea of making chapatis for a needed cause was birthed after speaking to a friend. My plan was to fundraise for feminine hygiene pads to kenya through cooking chapatis.

I accompanied my younger daughter to a friend’s home to deliver girls scout cookies. As we were visiting, I spoke to this individual and siblings about my new thoughts. I stated how I plan to reach out to all the people I call my friends and share my plan as I assess ways to tackle this need back in kenya.

This need (feminine hygiene pads) remains close to heart. I am aware of girls who don’t go to school on those particular days because they lack the feminine hygiene pads. Even though they may use other things during those days that may complicate women’s health, there are other women and girls who never leave their homes.

A cousin of mine shared how both girls and women will exchange sexual favors services for feminine hygiene pads. Hearing these storielines chokes my heart!😢. While attaining quality feminine hygiene pads remains an ongoing need, it means women and girls are locked into cycles.. These cycles can be vicious and lethal at the same time while they try to attain funds to purchase feminine hygiene pads.

Back to my story, once we were done talking with the individual, we departed from the home. As I was getting into my car, this friend flagged me down to stop. She told me Flo, shika $ 20 dollars, and you have my support towards your needed cause. This type of generosity from this particular individual was a reminder that it is not in all arenas we explain our whole story. There are people who trust and take our word for it that we will complete the task per our script. From this interaction, I saw a bigger vision than asking people for money.

I came home and requested my daughter to assist me in making a flyer to advertise my thoughts. The thoughts were making chapatis for a needed cause. Yes, chapatis!. Inwardly, I knew I had many skills established that can be enhanced beyond my development.

A short story-“My chapatis are known to our community to the ones who have stepped in to our home for a meal or have requested I cook for a potluck or other functions.” Members of my development are fans of my kind of chapatis. They can eat chapatis every week if not every day.😂😋😊.

The flyer was developed, and we picked out colors. My daughter completed the needed wording and added a bible verse without adult direction!. This was encouraging to witness seeds once planted, germinating to fruitful outcomes.

Upon the completion of the flyer, I requested that people in my development share the flyer within their networks and post in their WhatsApp status as many times as possible. I did the same on my end and have continued to do so  every other day.

Since the inception of the chapati journey, I have cooked chapatis for 7 families.

This one individual requested brown chapatis, 20 of them. Brown only chapatis are not an easy task. However, I was in for the challenge, though I did not feel confident enough. I almost said no, Thank you.

Looking back, I don’t regret the challenge because my outcomes exceeded what I anticipated. In this situation, my learning moment was that I was glad I did not decline the order because of fear. When the individual came over to pick up the chapatis, they asked what this cooking chapatis was all about. I giggled because I was surprised to learn the individual had not read the flyer!. All they wanted was the end product 😂🤣.  After explaining what the cause is about, the individual went back to his pocket and donated an additional $20 dollars toward the cause. When we speak of kindness from people, it is there in different ways.

When we are loyal and have integrity to our work, our character is the equity we have invested or others have invested in us.

The other individual who ordered chapatis inquired about the type of oil used due to food allergies. The oil name she inquired about,  I had never heard of it nor used it. The individual was assured that the only oil we use is olive oil. All my cooking is done using Olive oil, Extra Light taste.

The other individual who ordered the chapatis said, “Can I get them any this week?” I assured her that Wednesday evening works best to cook and deliver. This individual stated how about you cook them tomorrow Thursday and deliver. My daughter was kind enough to deliver on her way to other engagements. I reached out to this individual confirming that chapatis were delivered and to confirm with her family members, too. My daughter stated I delivered to a young man who answered the door, and I think it was the right place. 🤣🤣.  He took the chapatis. The individual confirmed I am home. Yes, the chapatis were delivered, and we have eaten half of them. This individual stated we want more. I stated that cooking chapatis is a task I enjoy and so I can cook when she needs them.

These encounters were opportunities to relearn, unlearn, and learn. Another thought-provoking cues shared by a customer to start asking future customers if there are any food related allergies.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Remaining steadfast to this needed mission/cause is my fuel.

Eckhart Tolle once said- “Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.

As of today, we have a total of $130 dollars. What I can say is, this is all God driven and God doing. All honor unto our good God.

The gift of people, community, and skills completes the coursework.

As I conclude, choose to be a modest, decent person. Many of us are born into this world, with more advantages than others. No one is born with more opportunities than others!.

With gratitude,❤️❤️

You my dear remind me of that time God asked Moses, “whats that you have in your hand?” And went on to perform wonders with the staff in his hand. Implying that there is something in our possession-money, talent, time, experience, connections etc etc that we can be used to improve the lives of others! Thank you Mimi❤️
