Have you ever broken a bone?
Yes, my right ankle. This was the worst pain and discomfort ever. I had to remain with the plaster for 6 weeks while using two crutches. At the time, this was not easy. I decided not to go to work because I was not only suffering physically but psychologically I was challenged. I could not adapt to my temporary situation to get around my life. At the time my father was concerned and so we decided we decided i stay home. Thank God to my parents, who were kind enough to allow me to be me.
I slept all day and night. I basked in the sun every day to a point where I had heat rashes on my face and neck, and my skin was peeling 😂😂😂.
At 17 years old, this was not my concern. I was living my best life😂 Yes, no, who cares 😂😂. We had a househelp who ensured I was fed when I was up 😂😂.
Memories that still linger even today were during the day, in the compound and surrounding areas, and neighborhoods were super quiet. All I could hear was the sound of the trees being blown by the wind🌳, and the birds singing. Our home faced the slopes of Limuru. The climate was breathtaking while the winds whilstered. You needed a light jacket or blanket if you were outside at 2 pm or 3 pm in the afternoon. A sense of comfort was experienced and, at the same time, was therapeutical to my soul! It was always an opportunity to invite silence while one reflected on life to become. Remember, I was a 17-year-old and was aspiring greater things despite my roadblock at the time.
This one early Tuesday morning, it had to be 7.30 am when I overheard my mother from the other room screaming, saying atii nii nimakuwa ithe wa mimi , muriu na mwana wa neighbor. Atii, they took my dad, my younger brother, and a neighbor child. My wonder remained where and who took my father, brother, and the neighborschild?. I jumped out of my bed and walked without them crutches for the first time. I was heading to the next room to where my mother was to hear the new news. My mother was still on a call sharing about the new news of my father carjacking. I still was limbo because i did not know who had alerted my mother about the incident, and the incident occurred only 100 meters from our home. Let me say that once that has now been experienced in our own homestead, I choose to never take anything for granted. My mother continued making several calls to different people, including the police, my father’s place of work, and my brother school. There had been afew high school students who had come to alert us of the incident once they witnessed, plus different neighbors. After two hours, my brother school called my mother to alert her my brother and neighbor child had been dropped off. Right away, my mother went and picked them up.
Fast forward after I resumed work. I was informed by my immediate supervisor that I could have been coming in to work despite my injury. I was informed that the organization would have made arrangements for me based on what my case assignment was.
What I can share from my experience is that if you have ever had an injury or fracture before, that area never goes back to be the same despite an individual age. Of course, it heals, but the remains unbalanced and too can be felt even years to come. I once checked with two different doctors looking for opinions. They made me understand that an area once injured heals, but sometimes, due to our body formation and the individual, there are areas that don’t go back to being the same. What I still can tolerate much of is wearing high heels for long extended periods. I had to cut my losses from an early age.
On the other hand, I wear stylish shoes that are comfortable and am able to walk the shoes and not the shoes walk me 😂😂.
Much love ❤️
